What will it cost?

It may be that your book may not suit a traditional publishing house, initially (many famous authors started as self-publishers). Publishers like most businesses need to make a profit. If your book doesn’t appeal to a mass audience or could be deemed as of limited interest, then you may find it hard to have your book traditionally published.
There are many benefits to self-publishing your book, the most important one is that you are in complete control. With conventional publishing they will have their own ideas on the content and how the finished product looks.
You can self-publish a book very quickly whist not compromising on quality. You can start writing a book and literally have that same book in your hands within months.
There is also money to be made! Depending on your pricing, self-publishing your book can result in much better profits than the traditional small royalty-based payments. Yes, you may have to pay to get the books printed and sent to your customers, but this should leave you with at least 30% - 60% profit per book.
Here is an example – based on a standard black and white book of 200 pages sold on Amazon:
Book Sale Price = £10
Amazon Fee = £3.30
Print Cost = £2.70
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 = £𝟰.𝟬𝟬
If you were to sell your 200 page book directly to your own audience then you could be looking at the following model:
Book Sale Price = £10
Print Cost = £2.70
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 = £𝟳.𝟯𝟬
(Postage and packing should be charged as an extra)
