The Business Wizard - Growing & Selling small businesses

We were introduced to Paul, whose book is the story of how he conceived and helped build 14 start-ups over a 60-year career.

It certainly wasn’t plain sailing, and he has related his varied experiences with no intention of making this book an advisory textbook, but it doesn’t feel right to end it there. Unlike most business books, which are written by either billionaires or academics who have never actually run a business.

This is his story, and it’ll give you his ‘take-outs’ along the way. He is in no way trying to teach anyone anything - just offering experiences and thoughts for consideration. He doesn’t have all the answers, but a good feel for things and would love to inspire future generations to ‘give it a go’ – you never know quite where it might lead you. The journey, the ups and downs, are all part of the fun. He has learned along the way from the many mistakes that are referred to in this book.

This is not a business book but a book describing a life of over sixty years spent in business.  Paul Daniels is one of those not on the Rich List. You won't find unicorns in his portfolio, but you will find over sixty years of starting and growing businesses - over twenty in total - most of which achieved solid profits and valuable exits. He also contributed knowledge and advice to more than twenty-five small to medium-sized businesses, which he backed at early stages.

Most business books are written by either billionaires or academics who have never actually run a business. That leaves a gap: practical, relatable advice from someone who's successfully built businesses at a human scale - again and again.

Paul's experience is far more relevant to the everyday business owner. He's faced and overcome the same challenges many entrepreneurs do: cash flow crunches, hiring the right people, fierce competition, difficult customers, knowing when to pivot, when to sell, and how to grow without sacrificing quality. These are the real-world issues that matter.

Something is refreshing about learning from someone who has built a good life and achieved multiple successful exits - without venture capital or pursuing massive scale. That kind of success feels both attainable and inspiring in a way that tech billionaire stories often don't.

Paul's track record spans a wide range of industries - from food importing to self-storage, traffic signs to modular homes. This diversity shows his unique ability to spot opportunities and build effective teams and systems across entirely different sectors.

This is a guide for ordinary people building real businesses.
